12/21/2023 0 Comments Dominions 5 agarthaYou just need to not ragequit if someone takes a big chunk of your provinces in the first turn, and systematically stomp all their attack forces. Your troops' lack of a need to eat also means you can and should mass up an arbitrarily large doomstack army without worrying about supply considerations - yeah your troops are pretty awful, Pale One Soldiers get two attacks per square at 8 attack, but if you can concentrate them more than your opponent can so you outnumber them massively in each battle, you can defeat them in detail. If you fort up your border provinces and keep some statues patrolling there you can create strong walls to protect your interior from threats that can't fly or Cloud Trapeze or whatever over your forts, so your unforted provinces just need some kind of anti-thug defense. Your statues also have a strong patrol bonus so you can catch stealth armies/thugs before they try to grab all your provinces at once and you can stop spies and assassins. This is all theorycrafting but I think MA Agartha should be preemptively turtling itself up quite a bit - you get recruitable AND summonable non-mindless need-not-eat troops that you can pile into your forts and make them very hard to siege unless your opponent parks their whole army there, including Defenders of the Halls which get a castle defense bonus. Yeah, shard guards are anti-elites that can kill or at least curse enemy pretenders and thugs and fight stuff like Anakites, but they can't really be the bulk of your army. You don’t get much natural fire gem income either, so you don’t want to be forced to spend all of your fire gems on magma children, as it’ll stop you from being able to compete for eternal pyre later You NEED to have an option to counter a rush as Agartha, otherwise you’re one of the most vulnerable nations in the game to it. Magma children help but they’re just a bandaid that’ll get slaughtered by anything fire resistant, with a high fatality rate even if you’re not fighting against fire resistant units. You can expand with anything if you give it a good bless.Įxpansion isn’t the issue, although Agartha does have a lot of trouble with taking barbarian and heavy cav provinces, rather the issue is that Agartha is terribly equipped to fight any enemy army and is very prone to being rushed early. The ancient ones are better for most purposes, but they too are not very good. They also have terrible movement and combat speed. They have low stats, mediocre protection and less health than the other agarthan sacreds, as well as high costs for their effectiveness. It’s also convenient for you because enchantment is your most important research because it’s where your sacreds are and all of these great globals happen to be in enchantment You obviously want to be able to cast earthblood and riches, but a far more important global IMO is eternal pyre, as fire gems are extremely valuable for Agartha, and lightless lantern production will help you make up for your lacklustre research (on a faction that scales very much with high research). Their early game is extremely bad and you should get a powerful defender god to start off with (I personally always go Monolith), and rush conj 3 so that you can summon magma children (your strongest early game tool) or thaum 3 for monodropping They can also cast twiceborn to turn into pretty high hp wights. Their oracles can be made into pretty decent supercombatants if you have the research for phoenix pyre and/or soul vortex, as the fire death ones can cast both using gems or boosters. Fire shield and/or hard skin do really good work. Their infantry and their sacreds are trash, but their statues are very strong, and any bless should be designed around those.
